Critical Literacy
Critical literacy in education involves the ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate texts and information critically, going beyond basic literacy skills to understand the social, political, and cultural contexts in which texts are created and interpreted. It encourages questioning assumptions, biases, and power dynamics in texts, empowering learners to actively engage with and challenge the world around them, while promoting social justice and equity in education (Top Hat, 2019b).
Critical Media Studies
Critical Media Studies examines the ways media influences and reflects society, focusing on the analysis of media content, its production processes, and its impact on audiences (Kellner, 2009). This field encourages critical thinking and media literacy, helping individuals understand and challenge media representations and power dynamics (Kellner, 2009).

Book Club
Book Club is a gathering of individuals who meet regularly to discuss books they have read (Eady, 2015). It provides a platform for sharing insights, exploring diverse perspectives, and fostering a love for reading through engaging discussions and community building (Eady, 2015).
Book clubs can be powerful venues for fostering critical literacy.
